Symform Cloud Storage Emails

Symform needed an email communication solution for their peer to peer cloud storage application.

THE PROJECT

Symform needed a solution that provided relevant communication from the app to the user via email. We worked as a team to define what communication was going to happen via email and needed to have designs for those scenarios. The goal was to provide enough relevant information for the user while also not being noisy. Symform had an existing email communication solution and we needed to cut out the cruft and make a better experience. The solution had to play well with email standards and on all device types which included mobile.

MY ROLE

I was the sole UX Designer on the project and worked with the product and development team to build out the experience. I provided the user scenarios for the team as well as the wireframes and the high fidelity designs. I worked closely with product and development teams to determine which existing emails would be cut or altered and what new emails needed to be built to support the new Symform product. I produced the visual design in Illustrator and Photoshop.

THE CHALLENGE

Symform had an existing email system and the challenge was to determine which emails were excessive, which needed updating and which needed to be created from the ground up. I was able to work with the PM team to determine which emails had resonated with users. We looked at open rates and click throughs with all our email types to help determine the value of emails. We also did some competitive analysis to determine what holes we might need to fill.

WHAT WAS LEARNED

A full audit of the old Symform email system had never been done before and we had the unique opportunity to see how they were performing. I hadn’t designed emails for a while and it was great to jump back in and learn about new email standards.
