VH1 Watch and Discuss Mobile App

VH1 wanted to build a mobile application that would allow users to engage with shows in real time.

THE PROJECT

VH1 approached the team at Action Engine to build a mobile application that would allow users to engage with shows in real time. It’s important to keep in mind that this was well before Twitter and there was a growing demand for real time audience participation with media. The goal of the project was to allow users to comment and interact with other users on VH1 shows with their mobile devices.

MY ROLE

I was the mobile designer on the project and worked with the product team to build out the experience. I worked along side a UX research lead and the creative director to help define the user flows and experience. I provided everything from the initial conceptual designs to the loading animations across the experience.

THE CHALLENGE

There were a few challenges at the time with this project. We needed to craft an experience that was straightforward since users were collaborating in real time. Another big challenge at the time was the sheer number of phones we supported was daunting. The lack of unity between phones was a big challenge and designing an experience that worked well on all phones and input types was fun.
