OpenSite Explorer Icon

The SEOmoz Open Site Explorer utilized their new MOZscape crawling that course the web every 14 days to build their index and it needed an icon.

THE PROJECT

I had the task of designing the experience for a new search marketing tool called Open Site Explorer. The SEOmoz Open Site Explorer utilized the new MOZscape crawler that crawled the web every 14 days to build their web index. The new tool needed a fresh visual design including and icon. The original SEOmoz icons were in dire need of updating so we decided to style the Open Site Explorer icon in a way that would help influence the redesign of the other old icons. The Open Site Explorer icon went through a couple iterations and was done in illustrator.

MY ROLE

I was the UX designer tasked with designing the experience for Open Site Explorer and with the new experience came a new icon to add to the SEOmoz toolbox.

SEOMOZ OPEN SITE EXPLORER DESIGN

This is the landing page for the V1 of the SEOmoz Open Site Explorer with the new icon and branding.

WHAT WAS LEARNED

We learned that having vector icons in the toolbox was much more scalable than the old raster icons. We learned that some time needed to be invested in the icon designs for the old tools and this was a reasonable way of doing it.
